By Edris KisambiraETHICS and integrity minister Miria Matembe is to write to the defence minister, Amama Mbabazi, about a white paper on the chopper probe report that is supposed to have been brought before Cabinet a month ago. Matembe, who was meeting a delegation of officials from the Irish government here to review Ireland’s aid programmes to Uganda, revealed this while reacting to a question from Dermot Gallagher, the Irish secretary general of the department of foreign affairs, who led the delegation. She said, “the chopper thing has taken so long. I am now going to write to the Minister of Defence because I have been harassed about it left, right and centre.”She said by not releasing the report early, the Government looked as if it was covering up something, “yet we are not,” Matembe said. She gave the team a brief background of the inquiry and how far it had gone, saying the inquiry’s findings were presented to cabinet upon which a committee was set up to draft a white paper whose resolutions are not yet known.Martin O’Fainin, the charge d’Affaires at the Irish embassy, asked whether the findings and resolutions would be made public like the Ssebutinde Police probe.Matembe said the report’s resolutions would be implemented.Ends
