Lifters Get Sh3.6m Boost

JET Tours and National Council of Sports (NCS) have boosted the national weightlifting team with a total package of sh3.6m, reports Norman Katende.

JET Tours and National Council of Sports (NCS) have boosted the national weightlifting team with a total package of sh3.6m, reports Norman Katende.The team will be participating in the Africa senior, Africa junior and ANOCA zone V weightlifting championship slated for Kenya over the weekend, and leaves tomorrow.Uganda Weightlifting Federation (UWF) secretary Salim Musoke yesterday said that Jet Tours had donated sh3m while NCS offered sh0.6m towards their trip.“We are still looking for more $1100 (sh2m), which is the participation fee for the 11 weightlifters entered for the championships,” said Musoke.Weightlifter of the year Salim Balinya, who collected three gold in last year’s Africa junior and three silver in the senior category is expected to lead Uganda’s search for more fame at the continental scene.The championship has already attracted over 20 countries. Among them Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Nigeria, Sudan, Kenya and Tanzania.The championship will start with the Africa Congress.The team: Salim Balinya, Irene Namusoke, Rashid Lubega, Ismail Katamba, Badru Namujje, Kassim Mulinde, Ibrahim Katende, Ronald Nsubuga, Moses Kimbowa, Noah Subi, Irene Ajambo, Rosebell Kikomeko.
