A Busoga Kingdom prince, Patrick Izimba Gologolo, the hereditary chief of Kigulu, has attacked the central government for its continued occupation of the kingdom’s buildings without paying rent.
By Richards Osinde A Busoga Kingdom prince, Patrick Izimba Gologolo, the hereditary chief of Kigulu, has attacked the central government for its continued occupation of the kingdom’s buildings without paying rent. Izimba told this to the state minister in charge of primary education, Namirembe Bitamazire, during her meeting with Busoga Kingdom cultural leaders at the Lukiiko hall, Bugembe recently.Bitamazire was on a countrywide tour to brief cultural leaders on the advantages and objectives of basic education under the Universal Primary Education programme. The Jinja Chief Administrative Officer, Eustace Gakwandi, the Katukiro, Dan Batuwa, and the Busoga minister of education, J.M Lwabi, were also present.Izimba said unlike in the past when the Kyabazinga used to receive a grant from the government from money raised in taxes, the government had not made any remittence to the kingdom.He said, “We don’t have office space where our people can consult us on issues of development. Busoga was left out because their counterparts in Buganda almost received all their property from the Government.â€Izimba said there was lack of a reading culture in Busoga region because there were no books written in their mother language (Lusoga). However, Bitamazire said books in various mother languages would soon be printed to help learners understand better.She declined to comment on the government occupancy of the kingdom’s property. Ends
