But that did not worry 23-year-old Rehma Nakuya, who on Saturday won Miss Western Region during the last regional final of the 2002 Miss Uganda beauty pageant.“I considered all that before I came here. I know the medical profession is a busy one, but in the Bible and the Koran, God says that take one day at a time,” she told a press conference soon after the finals held at the lake View Regency Hotel in Mbarara. “My family knew about my contesting, so being a Muslim should not be a problem. But whatever comes, I’ll take it one day at a time.”Nakuya, a 5th-year medical student at the Mbarara University of Science and Technology, beat 10 girls to qualify for the finals of this year’s Miss Uganda, which will take place on August 10 at the Speke Resort, Munyonyo.Seven girls have qualified for the final pre-selection to take place this Saturday at Kabira Country Club, Bukoto. Nakuya’s first and second runner-ups were Elizabeth Kaigwa and Sandra Nakalanzi respectively.This was the fourth regional final of this year’s Miss Uganda, jointly sponsored by MTN, Bell Lager and Sudhir Ruparelia. Kottie Oola won the north, Prossy Nandudu, eastern and Drucila Muzira won the Jinja region.Jessica Kyeyune, a judge and Miss Uganda 1990, said, “Rehma is intelligent, confident, carries herself well and has a wonderful personality.”Ends
