A youth camp targeting holiday makers is on. Called the “Great Escape,” it the first of its kind in Uganda. The camp that ends this Saturday, will train young people in Christian leadership. The event was organised by the youth out-reach ministry, Uganda, which was established in August 2001. The ministry was the brainchild of Reverend Dr. Senyonyi, Pastor Mark Kigozi, Stephen and Juliet Lumonya and Denis Kigongo.Kigongo is the national director. The aim of Youth out-reach is to reach young people with the gospel of Jesus.“Our work is mainly in schools and remand homes,” says Kigongo. He explains that last Christmas youth out-reach visited Naguru remand home and organised a Christmas party for the juveniles. “This event saw 45 children give their hearts to the Lord,” says Kigongo. Two of the children from Naguru remand home who got saved now work as volunteers in the youth outreach ministries. The camp being organised by the ministry is open to any young person whether born again or not. “Actually we are more interested in young people that are not yet born again,” reveals Kigongo.“We decided the camp could be in the month of May because it is a month with a few activities as compared to other months like December,” he adds.Ten people from England and others from Kenya and Tanzania arrive this Thursday in preparation for camp. The camp which will take place in Ntinda view academy will cost each young person sh25,000. The money will be used to provide lunch, break tea, evening tea and supper for the two-week camp. The main speaker will be Collin Peeper from England. Other speakers will be Major General Elly Tumwine, Rv. Dr. Senyonnyi, Pastor Mark Kigozi, Stephen Langa, True love waits crew, and Bishop Oboketch.Music will be done by groups like Kasanga miracle worship team, St. Francis’s Come alive ministries and Heaven bound, Gospel dancers, the seraphims, salt513 and the miracle teens. “These groups have the right music for the young energetic youths who will attend the conference,” says Patrick Mwesigwa a member of the youth outreach ministry. The camp has two themes, “Great escape” and “Being youthful and useful.” Great escape means escaping from the daily routine, peer pressure, habits like alcoholism, drugs, masturbation, escaping from family pressures,” says Kigongo. The second theme means break loose be youthful and useful. “When you break loose and join Christianity it does not mean you are going to lead a boring life. You can still have fun in the Lord,” says Patrick Mwesigwa. Ends
