Oryem in funds drive with URFU

HENRY Okello, Sports State Minister, is expected to preside over the fundraising dinner organised by the Uganda Rugby Football Union (URFU) at Sheraton Hotel today.

By Ronnie Kintu HENRY Okello, Sports State Minister, is expected to preside over the fundraising dinner organised by the Uganda Rugby Football Union (URFU) at Sheraton Hotel today.The dinner, sponsored by MTN Uganda, Uganda Breweries Limited and Kenya Airways, is meant to solicit funds to help in the running of the local and international activities of URFU this season.“We expect the best out of the dinner and hopefully, it will help us (URFU) to recover financially after the international ventures we have been involved in of late,” country manager, Herbert Wafula, told The New Vision.Many corporate organisations are expected to turn up for the dinner in a bid to boost the local rugby governing body financially.URFU has had a successful start to the 2002 season. On the helm was the election of the union boss Paul Sigombe as Vice President of the Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) last month.URFU will send a team to the annual international Safari Sevens tournament slated for June 22-23 in Nairobi Kenya. Teams all over Africa and Europe are expected to take par in the event.Meanwhile, the final round of the Bell Lager sevens circuit will be on tomorrow at Kampala rugby ground. Heathens and Underwriters Kobs are in a neck-to-neck contest at the circuit.Ends
