By Catherine NtabaddeKAMPALA City Council (KCC) is to arrest people found dumping garbage in the Centenary Park. The public has of recent turned the park which is located along Jinja Road into a dumping site.“The park is a public place where people come to rest and do what they want but it is unfortunate that some people come with garbage and litter there,” KCC’s senior public relations officer Simon Muhumuza said.“Why would somebody carry garbage to the park? Dumping garbage in the park is irresponsible,” he said.He said Ugandans should police each other so that anybody found littering garbage in the park and on the streets is arrested.“No city can police an area on a 24-hour basis. The best practical thing is for people to police themselves,” he said. Muhumuza complained that when KCC officials try to arrest persons found littering rubbish, the crowd would want to beat them.He said KCC’s laws which restrain people from urinating along the streets are still effective.Ends
