Omukama’s Wedding Gets Boost

THE royal wedding of the Omukama of Bunyoro, Solomon Gafabusa Iguru and his longtime fiancée, Margaret Karunga, appears to be getting in high gear, writes Geoffrey Kamali.Local industrialist, Alykhan Karmali, proprietor of the Mukwano Group, yesterday boosted it with a sh1m cash. “We think this small contribution will go a long way in facilitating the occasion. We wish the king a happy marriage and a bright future,” the company spokesman, J. Wotimar, said.The cheque was handed over to the Bunyoro finance minister, Dr. Abel Katahoire, by Jackie Mutekanga, a marketing officer at a ceremony at the Mukwano Industrial complex offices in Kampala.Iguru is set to walk his bride down the isle on June 26 at a regal function, estimated to cost over sh11m. Wedding meetings have been held in Kampala, Kyenjojo and Kabarole to raise the funds.“We want to give the king a wedding befitting his kingdom. We are very grateful to Mukwano and are looking at you as a partner in development,,” Katahoire said.Ends
