Police Gun Down Notorious City Robber

By Steven CandiaA MAN said to be a notorious city cash robber was gunned down on Sunday while attempting to escape after arrest.The thug, only identified as Kiberu, was shot dead at about 9:20pm in Nsambya, a city suburb.Kampala Police Chief Ahmed Wafuba (pictured above) yesterday confirmed the shooting but said Kiberu had been on the Police wanted list for a long time.“That man ( Kiberu) has been a notorious thug who has always been on our list but has been evading arrest. We have been trailing him for quite some time but yesterday (Sunday) was his day,” Wafuba said.He said Kiberu fell under a hail of bullets as he tried to flee from security agents whom he had offered to guide to a robber’s den in Nsambya.“Kiberu had been arrested at about 4:30pm with a pistol. He was later interrogated upon which he was able to tell us his associates and network of operation,” Wafuba said.He said, “While leading the security men to the hideout, he thought he could dupe them and escape. “His attempted escape prompted the security men to open fire on him,” Wafuba said.Ends
