Ssemwezi murder suspect transferred to CPS

A Man who was being held in Masaka in connection with the recent murder of a Kampala businessman, James Kaggwa Ssemwezi, has been transferred to the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala.

By Steven Candia A Man who was being held in Masaka in connection with the recent murder of a Kampala businessman, James Kaggwa Ssemwezi, has been transferred to the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala. Sources at CPS who preferred anonymity told The New Vision that Manuel Turiire was transferred on Thursday morning from Masaka Police Station where he had been detained.Turiire, a long time serving casual worker of the deceased is believed to have gone underground immediately after Ssemwezi was shot dead by armed thugs who waylaid him near his residence in Busega, a city suburb.Police on Wednesday revealed that they had arrested a suspect in connection with the murder but remained tight-lipped about his identity and other personal details.“The man (Turiire) was brought here in the morning and is being held pending interrogations by investigation officials,” a source at CPS said.Turiire was arrested in Kabonero village in Masaka where he had allegedly gone into hiding. Sources said investigators were trying to establish whether Turiire was directly involved in the murder or supplied information to his colleagues. Ends
