The Police have arrested British American Tobacco BAT (U) southwestern area manager Patrick Matte in connection with the murder of Dr Leonard Balagadde. Balagadde was an employee of Quality Chemicals Ltd. Allan Turyaguma reports that Balagadde was brutally murdered early morning on Saturday June 22, near Rwebikoona trading centre in Mbarara municipality. “Its true we are holding Matte for questioning, but I can’t give you more details concerning his involvement at the moment,” the regional Police commander, Edward Ochom, said. Matte was allegedly one of the people seen with Balagadde at Vision Empire discotheque before he was killed. The Police said Balagadde was hit on the head with a club. “The killers did not use any sophisticated weapons, they just pulled him out of his vehicle and battered him to death before throwing his body on the roadside,” a Police investigator said. Reports said Balagadde, who lived in Kakoba Division, was returning from dropping a friend to Ruharo, another Mbarara suburb. Several murders have hit the country with several prominent business people in the city murdered. President Yoweri Museveni has ordered security forces to hunt the killers. Ends
