By Jude Etyang THE Arua district engineer, Lawrence Pario, on Tuesday disowned valley dams which were built in western Uganda, although he was listed in the contract as the project engineer.“I have never done any work related to valley dams. I have never worked in Rwamuranda, Chera, Kishangumwa or Kiyaga,” Pario told court presided over by Buganda road Principle Magistrate Charles Serubuga.Pario is the first prosecution witness in the trial of Dr. Thomas Bamusonighe, the former director of animal resources at the Ministry of Agriculture and a Nigerian Consultant, Jeremiah Jide Fatokun, who are accused of failing to ensure that “key personnel were employed in the valley dams project.Pario stunned court when he said he learnt he was supposed to be the project engineer on July 7, 1999, when the Criminal Investigation Department interrogated him about irregularities in the project in which millions of shillings were lost.“In the contract for the construction of Valley dams they came across my CV. I was supposed to be the project engineer,” Pario said. He, however, said the purported CV did not bear his signature. He said although most of the information in the CV was true, he did not know how it got there.
