MAKERERE University has passed stringent rules for the payment of tuition fees with effect from the next academic year, reports Fortunate Ahimbisibwe. The students who will not have paid 50% of the tuition fees by the fifth week of every semester will not be considered University students. according to the new guidelines, students will also be expected to have completed payment by the 10th week or they will not be considered eligible for registration. The Academic Registrar, Sebastian Ngobi, said the Senate passed the guidelines during a recent meeting. “It has been noted that there is too much laxity in enforcing the deadline set for completing payment of tuition fees. This has adversely affected the operations of the university especially in planning exams,” Ngobi said. According to the circular issued by the Academic Registrar’s office on June 26th, “By Friday of the fifth week, every private student shall have paid 50% for the semester for the academic programme and should have registered provisionally.” Ends
