ABOUT 400 more Ugandans have been expelled from Tanzania and have pitched camp at Kamwema border post in Mbarara district, reports Allan Turyaguma.District officials told The New Vision on Saturday that the Ugandan returnees have about 1,600 head of cattle with them.“They are trickling in steadily from Tanzania with cattle, goats and some household items. We urgently have to do something about them,” an official said.Mbarara district secretary for security Capt. Steven Rwakanuma said Tanzanian soldiers were escorting some of the returnees to the border. These Ugandans have reportedly been staying in the areas of Kakunyu, Ryabatura, Kitoboka and Mishenyi in the Bukoba province of Tanzania. The Mbarara Resident District Commissioner, Joseph Arwata, said he had dispatched a team to the border to assess the situation.“We are very much surprised that the Tanzanians are taking this decision after the agreement we had with them to halt the expulsion of Ugandans,” Arwata said.Early this year, a Tanzanian delegation held a meting with Ugandan officials led by state minister for regional co-operation Col. Kahinda Otafiire in which the former agreed to halt the unconditional expulsion of Ugandans. In that meeting, it was also reportedly agreed that Ugandans who wanted to stay in Tanzania legally had to obtain licences. Sources said 19 families got the licences and were not affected by the fresh expulsion of Ugandans. Ends
