Tinyefuza evicted

David Tinyefuza has finally been thrown out of a disputed house in the plush Kololo residential area in a dramatic exercise that left the two-storey building vandalised.Neighbours and the auctioneers told The New Vision that persons in military fatigues moved into the house last week and vandalised it for two days before Dagi Auctioneers threw them out.The house, on Plot 10 Elizabeth Avenue, has been a subject of a court dispute between Tinyefuza and the Asian claimant, Pushpavati Patel since its repossession in 1994. Justice E.S. Lugayizi last December ruled in favour of the Asian and ordered Tinyefuza to vacate the house. But the general, who is also a senior presidential advisor on defence, instead rented out the house to the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI). The auctioneer, Gideon Muwumba, told The New Vision that the CMI staff peacefully vacated the house but that people in military police uniform were deployed to guard it. He said the house could have been saved from vandalism had the Police not refused to provide security for executing the eviction order. Muwumba said the officer in-charge of the Kampala Central Police Station told him there was no way Police constables could be deployed against a Lieutenant General.“I even met the Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala, over the matter but he advised me to report the issue to the Speaker of Parliament. He said he could never deploy his policemen. You can quote me on this,” Muwumba said.
