By Muhammad TamaleWORK in Kisenyi, a notorious Kampala shanty town came to a standstill for about three hours when a swarm of security operatives stormed the residence of the LC I chairman. The operation, conducted by ISO Deputy Director, Col. Elly Kayanja, nabbed Kisenyi LC I chairman, Medi Mutebi-Jjuuko and six others, suspected to be behind city robberies. The chairman had just ordered his information secretary and other LC I committee executives to display posters inviting villagers to a security meeting the following Sunday (July21). A gang of Kisenyi hooligans throwing stones briefly disrupted the operation when the security team was whisking away their comrades. But the security men shot in the air, sending them scampering for cover.Despite the tight security, some Kisenyi thieves astounded the security operatives. They unscrewed and stole a side mirror from one of the security vehicles that was parked a few metres from the scene. Also, in an attempt to assist their captured colleagues, they were daring enough to attack the double-cabin pick-up that was whisking away the suspects. The chairman, while in ISO custody at Clement hill road, appealed to all people involved in crime to take advantage of the President’s proposal of amnesty to them. The chairman who denied he was a criminal said, “I want all those criminals to take advantage of the amnesty.”
