AN estimated 100,000 pupils in Kasese last week went without classes, following a district-wide sit-down strike by teachers in most primary schools in the district.John Nzinjah reports that the district principal education officer Douglas Katemba described the action taken by the teachers as indiscipline in the civil service.“I am going to discuss the issue with the RDC and the DISO and see what to do, Katemba told The New vision on Thursday.Katemba said he was aware that teachers were not conducting serious classes at most schools because of the disparity in the recent salary increment.The district has over 240 government-aided primary schools with over 120,000 pupils registered under the UPE programme.Primary teachers in Kasese last year staged another strike which affected the PLE performance.
