By Geoffrey KamaliA SOLDIER’S army uniform saved three Internal Security Organisation (ISO) officers from death yesterday after the Police intercepted their vehicle, mistaking them for carrobbers. One of them was dressed in army uniform. They were travelling in a new saloon car with fake, old number plates. On scrutiny, however, the car was found with other numbers.Police said the group was heading to Nakasongola to arrest suspects and to recover guns but that there was lack of coordination over their movements. The Katwe Divisional Police Commander, Bazil Mugisha, said the group was intercepted at Ndeeba after a Police officer on duty spotted their car in Rubaga and alerted their patrol cars.“I think it was just a case of uncoordinated movement. At least, I am sure they are not thugs because we called ISO headquarters and they said those were their men,” said Mugisha. There has been a sustained campaign against armed city gangs by security agencies in the recent weeks under ‘Operation Wembley,” in which many robbers have been ‘put out action’ and others arrested.“We could have shot them, they were lucky,” said one officer.Ends
