Heifer Project International (HPI), an American-funded NGO, has donated 22 in-calf heifers worth sh30m to Bulyasojo Farmers Association in Masindi town, reports Kyetume Kasanga. The HPI deputy country director, Dr Margaret Makuru and the Masindi district veterinary officer, Dr James Tumwine, co-ordinated the delivery of the animals. The resident district commissioner, Mrs Betty Adima, last week visited some of the beneficiaries and urged them form farmers groups to manage the animals properly. She advised them to emulate Zimbabwean farmers who she said had been determining issues because they were united.“It is organised people that can influence issues of the day. The question of government saying they don’t subsidise farmers would not arise if that was the case,†Adima told a gathering at the Masindi District Farmers Association offices.
