Winnie Questions Mayombo Payment

Noble Mayombo by President Yoweri Museveni’s private secretary, Amelia Kyambadde.Byanyima on Wednesday showed reporters copies of a sh1b cheque No.106347 Kyambadde issued to Mayombo, the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence boss, on December 28, 2001.The cheque was drawn on Kyambadde’s personal account in Standard Chartered Bank.The money was subsequently shared between Mayombo, local government minister Bidandi Ssali and Faizal Kasujja, a relative of former Electoral Commission chairman Hajji Aziz Kasujja.Byanyima wondered whether the funds were personal and why they were being moved between personal accounts in case they were for official use.Mayombo yesterday told journalists that the money was paid into his personal account on Museveni’s instructions for intelligence work.Bidandi yesterday said, “It is true I received it. It was for official use. Of course it had nothing to do with personal matters.”Ends
