By Nicholas Kajoba and Jovita Ajuna The House of bishops has condemn the LRA massacres in northern Uganda and has urged for peace talks between the state and the rebels. The message was delivered by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Livingstone Nkoyooyo, at the 16th Provincial Assembly at the Uganda Christian University Mukono yesterday. The bishops warned politicians against politicising the northern conflict.Agriculture minister Dr. Kisamba Mugerwa represented President Yoweri Museveni at the opening of the assembly.“As a church, we strongly condemn the killing of innocent people in northern Uganda by the Kony rebels,†Nkoyooyo said.“We appeal to politicians and MPs not to politicise the war in northern Uganda but instead let us sit down and think together how this war can be ended,†he added. He said the suffering of people in the north requires serious discussion with all parties, including government, in order to get quick solutions.“The suffering is spread and affecting Ugandans, Sudanese both in Uganda and Sudan. All people of different faiths and ethnic groups are suffering, many uprooted from their places of aboard and work,†he noted.“We therefore appeal to our MPs, those in leadership and all citizens to think, speak and act responsibly,†he said.Museveni commended the church of Uganda for protecting the marriage institution and the home and urged them to plan more for the youths.“The church should design programmes that the young people will identify with and enjoy,†Museveni said. The theme of the assembly was ‘building on what you find there’, which emphasises the importance of working on a foundation.Ends
