FIVE suspected robbers were on Tuesday arrested and another killed in a raid mounted by Operation Wembley in Mbarara district, writes Allan Turyaguma.Residents were thrown into panic as gunshots rang out in the suburbs of the municipality and military vehicles kept moving around at a high speed.Security sources said officers from the Operation Wembley headed by the deputy director general of ISO, Col. Elly Kayanja, had trailed the robbers from Kampala.A thug identified only as Mande was gunned down near Kaberebere trading centre, about 8km on Mbarara Kikagate road, where he had staged a roadblock. The five robbers who were arrested were paraded at Kaberebere with some of their firearms.Mbarara district secretary for defense Capt. Steven Rwakanuma and the municipality local defense unit personnel commander, Eric Rutahigwa, participated in the operation.The suspects were identified as Laban Muhangi of Itojo in Karagwe, David Ruhinda of Kazo in Mbarara, Benon Kanyomozi of Kakoba ward in Mbarara municipality, Bull Musoke of Bugerere in Kampala and his wife Sylvia Namyalo.Musoke is Mande’s brother.Ends
