UPDF Kills10 Rebels In Lira

AT least 10 Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels were killed and two captured on Tuesday in Ogur sub-county at Okwalama, about 15km on the Lira-Kitgum road in Erute north, Lira district.

By Dennis Ojwee AT least 10 Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels were killed and two captured on Tuesday in Ogur sub-county at Okwalama, about 15km on the Lira-Kitgum road in Erute north, Lira district.The assistant RDC, Johnson Butamanya, who is also the chairman of Lira security committee, said four UPDF soldiers were injured.Butamanya said by Wednesday morning, the rebels said to be under the command of Charles Tabuley had crossed into Alito sub-county.He said military sources estimated the rebels to be 200 fighters.Butamanya said one civilian was killed and 11 injured by helicopter gunfire at Anara in Aloi sub-county on Sunday.He said he did not know how many civilians could have been abducted from Ogur and Alito sub-counties.The UPDF fourth division spokesman, Lt. Paddy Ankunda, “I am yet to get the details of what took place, so that I don’t base on speculations,” Ankunda said.The division’s intelligence officer, Capt. Abdul Rugumayo, also said he had no details.“I haven’t got the details, but I have confirmed the battle. I have heard also that at least 10 rebels were killed and two captured in the Ogur battle,” Rugumayo said.“It was quite a sizeable force that has been moving in Ogur in Lira and Otwal and Alito in Apac district,” he said.The UPDF 4th division commander, Col. Andrew Guti, said there was fierce fighting at Ogur. He said the rebels split into smaller groups.Ends
