700 Captives Rescued

By Maurice OkoreTHE Uganda Peoples Defence Force (UPDF) has rescued over 700 abductees from the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) since March. Army Spokesman Major Shaban Bantariza said this while addressing students at the Uganda Media Consultants and Trainers Institute on Saturday.He the abductees were rescued from the LRA following penetration into their hideouts. Bantariza said over 280 rebels were killed and over 70 have surrendered.He said the 5th brigade with 10,000 soldiers was deployed in the north to deal with the insurgency. The UPDF recently launched an initiative to rout out Kony. Ends
