FORMER justice minister and attorney general Joseph Ekemu was yesterday acquitted of charges of theft of a sh30m cheque from his client.
Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate Joshua Marouk ruled that Ekemu had no case to answer since the State had failed to produce sufficient evidence.
Ekemu, 56, a lawyer, was stripped of his practising certificate last year by the Law Council over the same matter.
Ekemu served a two-year jail term in Luzira for abuse of office after the same court in 2000 convicted him of diverting sh113m, which the Government had released to the Teso Presidential Commission for restocking the Teso region with cattle.
