Makoma Will Help Three Local Groups

Kampala’s mind has been totally blown by Netherlands-based Congolese Gospel group Makoma’s spirited showmanship on stage. They have thronged their shows in multitudes. Makoma performed last Friday at Nile Hotel Gardens and later held a show at Nakivubo on Sunday. Now the artists feel like its time that they too gave something back. Thanks to a deal brokered between producer Robert Segawa and the Congolese artists’ representative in Uganda, Bisa Atou, the young globe-trotting singers will sponsor the production of three Gospel albums by three Gospel groups from three different churches in Kampala. The groups to be drawn from Kansanga Miracle Centre, Rubaga Miracle Centre and a third from either Kampala Miracle Centre or Christian Life Church, Bwaise will be direct beneficiaries of the group’s Sunday afternoon show at Rubaga Miracle Centre. Makoma will charge sh5,000 for this show dubbed ‘Bye Bye Kampala.’ A percentage of the gate collections will be given up to support the artists. Promoter Robert Segawa, who will also produce the groups in his Tagy Studios on Kampala Road, said the artists will be chosen by their respective pastors. Segawa has just finished work on two albums by Gospel singers Dan Katende and Monica Ntende.
