By John Kakande IN a new twist, MP Abdu Katuntu (Bugweri), the lead counsel for the Parliamentary discipline committee probing assault charges against Lt. General Elly Tumwine, is stepping down.
Katuntu told the New Vision yesterday that he had decided to step down because he was one of the lawyers for suspects who were charged before the military Court Martial, which is presided over by Tumwine.
The three suspects include Wilson Stephen Mukama alias Doctor, Henry Suubi and Vincent Ssalongo Kasozi. They were allegedly arrested with two guns, 10 bullets, army uniforms and pips for a captain.
As lead counsel, Katuntu was supposed to lead the questioning and cross-examination of Lt. General Tumwine, the complainant MP Jacob Oulanyah (Omoro) and other witnesses.
Fred Ruhindi (Nakawa) is alternate lead counsel.
Katuntu said he might be misunderstood and accused of harassing the General because he is representing suspects being tried by the Court Martial. Ends
