IT was a terrible week for the people in Masaka. As the enumerators in Masaka went on with the census exercise, lightening struck, leaving two pupils of Nkuke Public Primary School in Bukoto East, dead. The former P7 pupils, Harriet Nandaula (14) and Rebecca Nanono (12) were washing their plates after lunch when the lightening struck. May their souls rest in eternal peace.
For Prof. Timothy Wangusa, the renowned writer, his efforts and patience are paying off. After over a dedicated three decades of service at Makerere University, Wangusa has landed a placing as Vice Chancellor. Not at Makerere University. He takes over Kumi University. This man, who also won himself a place as the presidential advisor on writing last year, reportedly received the instruments of power from the outgoing Korean Hyeong Lyeol. I can only say congratulations and good luck, Prof.
Now, who can prove otherwise that education is a wise investment? At least the past week proved that investing in education has never been a wrong footing. If still in doubt, the Literacy Adult Basic Education (LABE) NGO, knows this well. In their efforts to provide education to at least 19,000 adults so far, their efforts received a further boost. LABE scooped this year’s UNESCO literacy award worth US$ 15,000 (sh27m) for a job well done. For those NGOs taking people for a ride, borrow a leaf from LABE.
