UGANDA Wildlife Authority (UWA) has expressed concern over reports of rebel attacks in Murchison Falls National Park, saying this would scare away tourists.

UWA’s acting spokesperson Lilly Ajarova said over the weekend that the park was still safe despite reports of attacks inside the park.

“Murchison is safe because the attacks take place on the fringes of the park in the north, but tourism operations are in the southern part of the park,’’ Ajarova said.

She was told this to journalists ahead of the national celebrations to mark the World Tourism Day which ended on Sunday with exhibitions from tour operators and service providers.

She said UWA was mindful of the safety of its clients, adding that the ambushes near Karuma affect a very small part of the park.

She said the reservations office has been getting many inquiries from clients after media reports indicated that the attacks were taking place in the park.

She said most of the clients have never been to the park and such reports make them think that the whole park was unsafe.
