Top Company Uganda, a Chinese franchise, is to set up a motorcycle assembly plant in Neeba, a Kampala suburb.

Henry Wang, the company manager, said yesterday, the plant would cost about sh400m.

“Our target is to assemble 5000 motorcycles per year. If the number is to big for the Ugandan market, then we will export some of them to neighbouring countries in East and Central Africa,” Wang said.

He said that the purpose of setting up the assembly line code-named "Motorcycle Similar Knock Down" (SKD) was to help low income earners to get motorcycles for easy transport.

“Our ambition is to see that every Ugandan gets a new motorcycle, because second-hand motorcycles are expensive to maintain,” he told The New Vision yesterday.

He explained that the plant would be in place before the end of this year.

Wang said that the company currently deals in low cost, less pollution, high performance brand new Jianshe Motorcycles in different models like JS100, CY80, JS125.

He said the plant could earn Uganda considerable foreign exchange.
