DESPITE applying for amnesty, former presidential candidate Kizza Besigye’s aide-de-camp, Major Mike Salambwa, and three others are still being investigated on allegations of recruiting rebels to overthrow the Government.
State prosecutor, Rachael Wandeka yesterday told Buganda Road Court that the Police was still investigating the reports.
Salambwa, 46, a former UPDF soldier, Frank Byaruhanga, 36, Rosette Bagata, 22 of Tanzanian origin and John Katungwensi were sent back on remand at Kigo Prisons until October 21 when their case will come up for mention.
Kigo houses many other terrorist suspects.
Salambwa and his cronies were on November 15, 2001 deported from Tanzania. They are facing charges of treason and failure to report it.
The Police said Salambwa, Byaruhanga, Bagata and Katungwensi and others still at large, between April 2001 and November 3, in Wakiso, Kampala and Rakai districts plotted to topple the Government of Uganda by force of arms.
They allegedly recruited rebels, gathered intelligence and solicited money for rebels camped outside Uganda.
The Police added that the suspects knew of the plot but did not give information to government authorities.
