FORMER Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s office, Peter Ucanda, and the Northern Uganda Reconstruction Programme (NURP) financial controller, Constantine Okino, have been put to task to defend themselves in a sh96m fraud case against them, reports Maurice Okore.

Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate Duncan Gaswaga yesterday ruled that Okino and Ucanda should start defending themselves.

“On May 5, 2002, this court approved an application by the State to locate the last witness but since it has failed to execute it, I am left with no choice but declare the application a failure and hearing of the defence must start now,” Gaswaga said. Ucanda and Okino are defended by Nsubuga Mubiru and McDusman Kabega.
