EMILIO Mwai Kibaki, 71, was on yesterday nominated as National Rainbow Coalition (Narc) flag-bearer as mainstream opposition groups buried a decade of disunity, to field a single presidential candidate.

The much anticipated super alliance line up for the forthcoming general elections was however not made public to the chagrin of thousands of supporters who had waited outside Hilton Hotel for the news.
Instead, the leaders censored The Daily Nation and East African Standard which speculated on the line up in yesterday’s editions.

In his plea for papers to avoid speculation, Moody Awori said apart from the flag-bearer, the line up had not been decided on. He said speculation could derail the efforts the united opposition was making.

Besides Kibaki, the papers said Raila Odinga was a compromise candidate for the premiership, Wamalwa Kijana (vice president), Kalonzo Musyoka (second vice-president), Charity Ngilu, George Saitoti and Kipruto Kirwa (deputy prime ministers).
