The deputy Katikkiro, Godfrey Kaaya Kavuma, has refuted claims by Abazukulu ba Buganda, a pressure group of Baganda activists, that Mengo officials had sold off the Butikkiro, the official residence of the Katikkiro, reports Josephine Maseruka.
The Butikkiro is currently utilised by the Joint Clinical Research Centre.
The group also said Mengo officials were renting out official houses in the Mengo palace.
They said all the houses in the palace have official roles, adding that renting them out was a sign that Mengo officials want to sell off Buganda’s assets.
Kavuma said, “There is no way we can sell Butikkiro because traditionally the Kabaka can only occupy Twekobe, his official house in Mengo palace, if the Katikkiro stays in Butikkiro.”
