VICE President Speciosa Wandira Kazibwe has said the Islamic faith beats all other religions at granting immediate divorce for a disgruntled married couple, reports Lillian Nalumansi.
She said Christian religions stick to the till-death-do-us-apart preaching, even after a marriage “is long dead”.
“The good thing about the Muslims is that when things get very bad in a marriage, the leaders allow the couple to kutalaka (Muslim Luganda word for divorce). But these things of till death do us apart in Christian religions are very difficult. You can be dead everyday in a marriage,” Kazibwe said on Saturday at Kibuli Mosque when she was asked to give a word of advice at the wedding of popular comedian Ahmed Meddie Nsereko Ssebuliba and Amina Nalwoga.
Describing the groom as a “handsome young man, who makes people laugh”, Kazibwe advised the bride who donned a cream flowered sleeveless wedding dress, to truly love her husband.
“I am the Vice-President but if a man came and told me he loved me and he truly meant it, why not?” Kazibwe said.
“The problem is that people are mistaking women’s emancipation to mean women who have grown big wings and want nothing at all to do with men,” she said. Ends
