Having served the Government for years, they retire to their homes, if any, waiting hopefully to receive their reward before they meet their creator.

However, some die miserably cursing their former bosses for not giving them the much needed pension.

The Minister of State for Pensions, Benigna Mukiibi, told the parliamentary committee on legal and parliamentary affairs yesterday that the revalidation exercise of pensioners in her ministry had created arrears totalling sh100b. She said these arrears dated as far back as 1988.

She said the Government has so far given the ministry about sh20.6b to clear the arrears.
She, however, said pensioners born up to 1932 were paid first. This means that one has to be above 70 years to get this pension.
