Why refuse prayers for a suicide?

SIR— Recently, a friend committed suicide by shooting himself. His church couldn’t bury him because it isn’t allowed. May I challenge any church leader of any rank the world over to tell me where it is written in the Bible that prayer for the dead is of any consequence to the dead. Prayer on such a day is for the benefit of the living. What is the biblical justification for not holding a funeral for a suicide? No dead person benefits from any prayer.
Another issue is on pet names (empaako) among Batooro and Banyoro. It is said that to some believers this is ungodly. Christ respected cultures as long as they never conflicted with his cause. Of what conflict is a pet name? You can say the same of a name. For everything, the Bible is the guide. Unfortunately, instead of substance we go for form.
