SIX people narrowly survived lynching recently after residents of Moru Apesur cells A, B, C and D in Soroti Municipality, said they were responsible for the death of six residents within less than a year.

It took the intervention of the Police, after the OC Kengere Police Post rang Soroti Central Police Station, to quell the crowd that had started hurling stones and beating the suspects.

The alleged culprits pushed hard and broke through the crowd and took refuge in nearby houses, leaving the mob threatening to set the houses on fire.

The sudden death of Peter Okello of cell A on October 21, prompted the screening and voting exercise to identify the culprits responsible for similar deaths in the area.

Okello is said to have collapsed as he was riding to work and died after two hours.

He reportedly kept repeating the words, “It is that other woman.”
