ENOCK Kayondo, whose musical name is Enny, has a debut album that portrays his life.
His parents divorced while he was young.
In his music, ENNY conveys the message clear. Temututta (Don’t kill us children) is his leading single. The song calls upon parents to stop abusing children. “Lwaki mututta nga mwe mwatuzaala?) Why do you kill us, yet you gave birth to us?” he asks in the song. The song is played regularly on local FM stations.
“Children suffer after they have become parent-less. This is why I composed the next song about parent-less children looming the streets of the city,” ENNY said. The song is entitled Abatalina Bazzadde (Those without parents).
“I realised that few composers are looking at the plight of street children. This is why I composed a song about them,” ENNY said. The song has children’s voices in the background.
He has also composed songs in Lusoga. “My problem now is getting my compositions recorded since I don’t have money,” he says.
ENNY began singing when he was five years old. He performed in his SDA church choir in Iganga. He gives himself merit for having composed the Iganga high school anthem.
When he went to Light college, Bulenga, he was among the group that recorded the first tape for the school, known as Asaana Kwebaza.
“My problems were compounded by the fact that I did not go to school beyond S.4, and during my short study, I missed terms and changed schools due to lack of fees,” he said. He hopes to compensate for his lack of any education qualification, by composing good music.Ends
