Sh50m saved from ghosts
MUKONO - Officials have intercepted cheques for sh50m meant to pay ‘ghost teachers’ in the district. Education officer Edward Kalanzi Ssewanyana said this at the annual general meeting of Mukono and Kayunga teachers co-operative society at the Colline Hotel Mukono over the weekend. “The names on the cheques were not of teachers appointed by the district service commission,” he said.

S4s protest over fake list
MASAKA - The Police were on Thursday deployed at BK Memorial Secondary School in Kyazanga, after 27 Senior Four candidates rioted and threatened to burn the school. They called for the headmaster’s head after they discovered that their names were not on the Uganda National Examination Board list. The riot lasted hours, delaying the biology theory paper.

Col preaches in DR Congo
DRC - The 55th Batallion chief, Lt Col Dan Opito, has taken to preaching the word of God to his troops during his free time. The troops are deployed in Ituri jungles. The born-again officer said the men needed God’s guidance in battle and salvation for their souls when they die. “God has already given us many victories,” Opito said on Thursday, while briefing the 2nd Division chief on his batallion.

Cops lose six homes
FORT PORTAL - Torrential rains on Thursday de-roofed six houses in the Police barracks, leaving the families in the cold. The families now share accommodation with neighbours. Police chief Francis Tumushabe said Kampala was notified.
