Sero-status
MAYUGE — Discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS has been identified as the major factor contributing to the increased spread of the disease. Joyce Kadowe, a social scientist with the Uganda AIDS commission, said, “As a result these people fear to declare their sero-status and continue infecting HIV/AIDS free people. Kadowe said this while officiating at celebrations to mark the world AIDS day here recently.

Avoid poverty
JINJA — Mr Andrew Kameraho, the deputy Resident District Commissioner, has
advised prison officers to practice family planning because large families lead to poverty in many African households. Kameraho said this at a send off party for the south and eastern Regional Prisons Commander, Mr. Eric Sentongo held at Timton Hotel recently.

Test for virus
Mbarara — The district health educator, Kazooba Lubega, has urged delivering mothers to test for HIV so that their results can help district health officers in preventing "mother-to-child HIV transmission and planning other HIV projects.

Challenged
JINJA — Mukono district director of health services, Dr. Elly Tushabe, has urged Njeru town councillors to co-operate with health workers to advocate for health services. Councillors had complained about poor health services at a recent meeting here.

Smallpox
LONDON — Britain is to vaccinate key health workers against smallpox as a precaution against a terror attack using the deadly virus, the government has said.
