Transport fares from Kampala to Masaka and nearby districts have doubled ahead of the Christmas day.
Charges on the Kampala-Kasese route dramatically rose on Friday, with some companies more than doubling the usual rate.
On Friday and Saturday, passenger transport costs from Kampala to Masaka in Coasters and Omnibuses shot up from sh3,500 to sh7,000, while in Peugeots, the fares stood at sh10,000.
The buses had also increased their fares.
Fares from Masaka to Kampala, however, remained normal and in some cases were reduced.
The Masaka-based Utoda Put Safe manager, Hajji Bull Katale, said drivers had to compensate for the routes they make on their return to Kampala with empty vehicles. Ends
