AS Ugandans celebrate Christmas, the Archbishop of Kampala, Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala, has appealed to leaders of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) to talk peace with the Government.

In a Christmas message he delivered from his residence at Lubaga, Wamala said, “Now is the time to think peace, talk peace and act accordingly.”

He described the northern war as violence carried to the extreme. He commended President Yoweri Museveni, who has for months pitched camp in the north, for his effort to bring peace and security to the northern region.

“I appeal, the nation appeals to the leaders of the LRA to respond to the advances made by the President of Uganda and those of the religious leaders,” Wamala told a press conference.

He expressed sympathy and solidarity with the people affected by the conflict in the north.

Wamala commended religious leaders in northern Uganda for their effort to create a forum for dialogue with the rebels who have waged war against the Government for about 16 years.
