JUSTIN ‘The Ugandan Destroyer’ Juuko coming off a tough 12-round victory over Tanzania’s Godfrey Mawe will come up against another highly rated Tanzanian on January 1, in Masaka.
With memories of rugged Mawe still fresh, Juuko faces Venance Mponji, ranked fifth in the lightweight division of the Africa Boxing Union (ABU).
The fight scheduled for Masaka Recreation ground is dubbed ‘Coming home’.
“After this fight I will be in position to get another fight in the US,” the Las Vegas based pugilist told The New Vision.
The Ugandan Destroyer said he was impressed by the challenge Mawe gave him.
“Mawe gave me a good test. I am happy to get another highly rated Tanzanian, I am told he is faster and harder than Mawe which is very good news. Fighting a weak opponent is useless.
“If he tries to put me under pressure I will give a fight he has never seen,” a confident Juuko said.
On the under-card bouts, upcoming Dodo Obong (junior welter) will fight Kenyan James Kipasi and lightweight Moses ‘Master Budha’ Kyandika will slug it out with Ochwo Ddungu in an all-Ugandan contest.
Ugandan Billy ‘Beast’ Kizito, coming off a confidence boosting victory over Kenyan George Owano last month, will take on Omona Kazimingi.
Kenyan Kevin Onyango will battle with Ugandan Yasin ‘Tyson’ Kalema in a super lightweight bout while in the light heavyweight division, Musa Mirembe will fight Joseph Lwate.
The event is sponsored by Sage Paints with Knockout Waragi as co-sponsor.
