Four heavily armed men yesterday shot dead an Asian business man, injured a special hire driver, and grabbed about sh65m from three other Asians transporting the money to pay workers in Masaka and Mbarara, reports Davis Weddi. The incident took place at around 8:30am at Kyibimbizi near Mpigi town on the Kampala-Masaka highway. The Deputy Police spokesman, John Kimera, identified the Asian killed as Abdul Kadir, a manager with UNEEK skins and hides company of Bombo Road in Kampala. This is the second robbery in less than a week. On Monday, four heavily armed men robbed sh4m from Caltex Kibuye. Deo Mukalazi, the special hire Toyota Corolla UXR 504 driver, suffered bullet wounds. Abdul Kadir was in the co-drivers seat. Kimera identified the other Asians who survived being shot as Abubaker Saidi, the UNEEK's branch manager in Masaka, Hamed Haaji, the Mbarara branch manager, and Mahwn. Initial statements made to the Police said the Asians boarded the special hire taxi from he basement of Hotel Equatoria. Kimera said when they reached Kyibimbizi, they realised that a while Toyota Corona UAB 604T was trailing them and the people in it fired gunshots in the air. The Corona reportedly took over their old Corolla and blocked their way, forcing them to stop. Then four men, each armed with a sub-machinegun, came out and shot Abdul Kadir who died on the spot before they grabbed the sh65m from the other Asians in the back seat. Ends.
