THE Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has asked presidential aspirants with qualifications from outside Uganda to submit certified copies from the bodies responsible for education in the countries where they obtained their certificates.
John Kakande reports that UNEB has also gazetted six categories of academic certificates which will be deemed equivalent to the "A" Level certificate.
The categories were published in an extra-ordinary volume of the Uganda Gazette.
"Candidates presenting equivalent qualifications obtained outside Uganda shall be required to submit certified copies from the regulatory agency responsible for education in the countries in which certificates are obtained, along with their course content," the UNEB notice stated. The requirement will mainly affect presidential aspirant Nasser Sebaggala who obtained his certificates from UK and USA.
UNEB said a person is deemed to have 'A' Level certificate on "presentation of an original 'A' Level certificate issued by UNEB, the East African Examinations Council or Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate."
Acting UNEB Secretary Matthew Bukenya yesterday said none of the aspirants had been cleared yet.
