President Yoweri Museveni said yesterday that he would woo Mbarara Municipality MP Winnie Byanyima back to his camp ahead of the March presidential polls.
"I will talk to my sister Winfred to come back to us. Since she professes to be in the Movement, she should stop assisting multipartyists in their campaign to destabilise us," Musveni said.
"But if she insists on staying with them, there will be no alternative but to fight her like an opponent," Museveni said in Runyankore.
Museveni and his wife Janet were part of the huge congregation that attended celebrations to mark 100 years since the advent of the Catholic Church in Ankole.
The celebrations at Nyamitanga, the seat of the Mbarara Archdiocese in Mbarara municipality, also marked the end of the Jubilee 2000 season.
Archbishop Paul Bakyenga, the main celebrant at the high mass, appointed Fr. Edward Baingana Muntu the new vicar general.
Byanyima, wife to presidential aspirant Col. (rtd) Dr. Kiiza Besigye, asked Museveni to fulfil his promises to Catholics on allocation of Core Primary Teacher Colleges.
She said Museveni had marginalised Catholics and appointed only one Munyankole Catholic to the Cabinet.
"We feel cheated when our colleagues in the Church of Uganda have you, (Eriya) Kategaya, Kweronda (Ruhemba,), Miria Matembe, John Nasasira and Amanya Mushega, in the Cabinet, when Catholics can only talk of Bart Katureebe,' Byanyima said.
She said Mbarara was pro-Movement and no cadre had deserted to join the multipartyists.
"I am also with you, although I am canvassing support for another Movement candidate who is competing with you," Byanyima said.
