By Josephine Maseruka Kampala City Council is planning to acquire new road equipment to meet the demands of road repair and maintenance. The mayor John Ssebaana Kizito commended the central Government for the sh150m grant given for roads maintenance in this financial year. He said "For the first time the central government has given KCC sh150m for the repair of feeder roads," Ssebaana said KCC's major concentration last year was on the repair of roads. He said the work was done mainly by Stirling, Zzimwe and Specon Construction Companies, particularly on tarmac roads in the central division. He said their major problem in the repair of murram roads in the divisions, was lack of dependable machines to do the work. Ssebana said, "The machines which we have now are so old although they are still operational. The council has to buy new machines if we are to satisfy the demand for good maintenance of roads." KCC, together with Makerere University, department of Urban Planning, have undertaken proper physical planning of several areas. Makerere students have finalized making plans for Kisenyi. The mayor said they held discussions with all stakeholders so that plans commence early this year. Ends.
