PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has appealed to all eligible voters in the country to take part in the voters' register update and exercise their right to vote in the coming presidential elections.

By Milton Olupot PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has appealed to all eligible voters in the country to take part in the voters' register update and exercise their right to vote in the coming presidential elections. Museveni said the update exercise was a noble one because an accurate voters' register was the key to the success of the elections. "I therefore appeal to all Ugandans qualified to vote to register and exercise their constitutional right and, indeed, obligation. "Let me also remind you that one of the original points of our political programme is to build and consolidate democracy. "This is the task to which every eligible person should contribute by participating fully in the electoral process," he said in a statement yesterday. He quoted Article 59 of the Constitution which says, "Every citizen of Uganda of eighteen years of age or above has a right to vote. "It is the duty of every citizen of Uganda of eighteen years of age or above to register as a voter for public elections and referenda." The article also says, "The state shall take all necessary steps to ensure that all citizens qualified to vote, register and exercise their right to vote." Museveni also said, "During the last 14 years, we have made considerable progress, but we need to build on those successes and consolidate our democracy further." Ends.
