A Congolese gold dealer was yesterday shot dead in Kampala city by thugs who took off with over sh7m he had just changed.
The victim was identified as Dradebo Obibe from Aru in the DRC. He had been a regular gold dealer who always took merchandise back to Aru after selling the gold, the Police said.
Police spokesman Asuman Mugenyi said Obibe had sold some gold at US$7,438 (about sh12m). He said four robbers, traveling in a white Corona and armed with two guns, waylaid Obibe at the Pioneer Mall on Johnson Street.
He said some sh4m fell out of the bag during a scuffle between Obibe and the robbers. Some guard reportedly fled with it.
